The last several posts on this blog have been fairly technical; this one is just for fun ... and to add some color to this page. No references, no links, just eye-candy. These photos show how I tend to see things when I'm wondering around in my hometown, especially when I'm in type-design mode (which is most of the time, lately). Type, hand lettering, graffiti. Painted on glass, cast in metal, scrawled on walls, baked onto tiles, carved into wood. Everywhere we look: type. Beautiful, ugly, whimsical, utilitarian, nostalgic. But, always fascinating ...to some of us. These pics were taken while walking home from Shaky Grounds coffee house, where I enjoyed reading about the design of the typeface 'Rumba'.
